Bian Lian
BianLian digitally transforms traditional performing arts into a playful interactive installation, providing users with an immersive, highly interactive, real-time performance experience through multimedia devices.
Design
BianLian is an interactive device that simulates the process of the traditional Chinese Sichuan Opera face changing performance art. Through real-time facial and body data capture and dynamic rendering, the user's facial expressions will be rendered in real time as multi-variable faces and projected onto a physical mask. At the same time, users can trigger the sound of different traditional musical instruments through body language.
Goal
The project aims to provide a portable, highly immersive and interactive traditional performing arts experience as a way to promote the popularity of traditional performing arts and test the feasibility of digital performing arts.
BianLian was featured in Digital Media Year in Review (2020) and exhibited at Gales Gallery.
