SoundScape provides an interactive experience that transforms sound data into static, collectible, aesthetically pleasing objects that reflect emotions and experiences.

Design

Compared to visual-based descriptions such as text, video and images, we believe that sound is a more emotionally responsive information carrier. Audio data has a narrative function and also reflects the emotional state of the user and his or her attitude towards the described object or subject. That is, audio data is a suitable data format for recording information related to users' emotions.

In contrast to the traditional way of recording audio data in digital format, SoundScape attempts to turn the thoughts and emotions expressed by users at a particular moment in time into collectible and shareable objects by transforming audio data into figurative objects. We hope that when users see these "SoundScape" models, they will be able to think of their past thoughts, emotions and experiences more vividly and clearly.

Implementation

SoundScape is an interactive device that provides real-time collection and analysis of audio data and dynamically generates 3D models that reflect the qualities of sound. Users can view a digital model of their recorded sound in real time in the SoundScape user interface and can 3D print the model on site.

In contrast to traditional interactive experiences that share audio digitally (such as "GIFT" developed by Blast Theory), "SoundScape" offers an emotionally descriptive interaction design that shares ideas and emotions through audio.

SoundScape is exhibiting at the "EMERGENCE: THE DIGITAL MEDIA END OF YEAR SHOW" at the Toronto Media Arts Centre in 2019.
